Middlebury World Languages SPRING 2023
Virtual Learning Coordinator: Tina Kohler: hspvirtuals@shamrocks.us
*Fuel Education's world language courses by Middlebury Interactive utilize a pedagogy and teaching methods refined over decades that include real-world reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities combined with immersive learning to accelerate language acquisition.
Elementary School Language Courses Our online language courses by Middlebury Interactive are designed to be learner-centric and provide students with a comprehensive 21st century world language education. All levels integrate The Five C's - communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities at varying degrees of immersion while leveraging interactive exercises, tasks, and practices. Courses are developed at grade level with age-appropriate topics and engaging themes specifically designed for K-12 learners.
Thematic Curriculum Our elementary school language courses provide an introductory foundation for young learners’ first exposure to language learning. A thematically organized curriculum features authentic literature, fables, myths, and legends. Interactive exercises introduce basic expressions and help develop vocabulary.
Fun and Friendly Students' primary focus is on listening and speaking, accompanied by opportunities to practice what they've learned in familiar settings. Stories, games, and songs create a fun and friendly learning environment where students can explore meanings and begin to express themselves. With an introduction to reading and writing, students become prepared for continued language learning.
Exposure to Language and Culture The elementary school language courses provide students with their first exposure to language and culture. The engaging course environment helps foster cultural appreciation and positively contributes to students’ performance in core subjects. This initial exposure to language builds the foundation for future language study and lifelong learning.

Elementary school language courses are available at the following levels:
Please review the Virtual Class Guidelines for requirements of course.
*All Partnership classes, including virtuals, are Project-Based Learning courses. Every student taking a virtual course needs to complete a project of his or her choosing that correlates to the Learning Goal (why are you taking this class?). The project for a Middlebury World Landguage class could be in the form of a video presentation or written essay in the language studied (with translation provided) and must be completed and submitted to virtual coordinator by the end of the semester.
Teacher of Record: BSPS teacher assigned to course varies depending on course subject.
