Lake Michigan College *Be sure to read our "What is dual enrollment?" page first
www.lakemichigancollege.edu
LMC registration is open!
LMC classes begin Jan. 14 Last day to drop: Jan. 22 Link to LMC Calendar
Open to students in grades 9-12
See tab: What is dual enrollment? first to understand any limitations.
Community College Dual Enrollment Process: LMC
The application and registration process is easy:
1) Determine your location: Napier, Bertrand (Niles), or South Haven
2) Meet with an advisor:
Bertrand Crossing Campus (Niles): Becky Foster 269-695-1391.
Napier Campus (Benton Harbor): Nicole Hatter: admissions front desk: 927-8128, open M-TH from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
South Haven Campus: Jessica Medina: 269-637-7503 jmedina@lakemichigancollege.edu
3) Take the college's placement test (COMPASS) which determines the student's overall reading and math proficiency. If you already have ACT or SAT scores, those may be submitted for consideration in place of taking the COMPASS test.
4) Once the advisor has your scores and approves your choices, you can register and choose your classes all on the same form:
Lake Michigan College Registration Form Add/Drop Withdrawal Form
5) Fill out all sections except those reserved for High School use, including the names and section numbers of all classes and parent and student signatures.
6) Send to Sharon Haynes by scan or fax for signature. We will send it back to LMC for processing and let you know when registration is complete.
Dual enrollment students can take any class except for religion, craft/hobby, phys ed or remedial. Dual enrollment courses can be core subjects as long as they are taken for college credit only, non-core subjects can be taken for both high school and college credit. To get the college classes you need, you may register before partnership registration opens. You must also take one other Partnership class in order to take 1-2 dual enrollment classes.
Once you have met with an advisor and have the registration form filled out with classes selected and test scores filled in, send the form to Sharon to sign and we will fax it to LMC. You may contact them directly with any questions, they are happy and eager to serve our homeschool students.
How to buy books:
Approximately one week prior to the start of the semester, BSPS will hold a mandatory book supply day at the High School. If you are not able to get all of the books you need at that event, Sharon will email a voucher to you which is taken to LMC's bookstore at Napier. Present the voucher and the bookstore will collect the books for you and put them on the student's account which will be invoiced to the school. If they were purchased and not rented, books must be returned to Berrien Springs High School office at the end of the semester. If you decide you will want to keep your books, do not use the LMC voucher.
