Project Based Learning Electives provided by the Berrien Springs Virtual Academy
Chainmaille with Kim Bollman
Students and teachers must be able to readily switch to online instruction at any point in the semester in order to register for classes. All students must complete a project for these classes.
Chainmaille (Jewelry) Spring 2023
Instructor : Kim Bollman qtswede@gmail.com #269-769-3042
Grades 5 and up
Location: Martins Supermarket, Stevensville 49127 (contact Kim with all questions, NOT Martins)
In Person
Saturdays, every other week
Starts Jan. 28
11:00 -1:00p.m.
Additional registration at location is NOT required.
Class Description:
This class will cover a multitude of chainmail weaves starting with beginner level projects that quickly work up into jewelry. Pace of the class will be determined by the class itself. Expect jewelry, gifts, a fidget, and a final project to be determined by the class. **All metals used shall be non-reactive and include: Anodized aluminum, stainless steel, and possibly a bit of titanium.
Other: Instructor will provide all packs for the classes offered. All rings, clasps, and scales (as well as any other element of the project will be given in the project packs.) Students must bring to every single class two pairs of appropriate pliers and a bead mat. ‘Appropriate’ in this definition means : smooth-jawed, without teeth on the inside of the plier surface where the rings will make contact. Please contact your instructor for economical and ergonomic suggestions. Pliers from Michaels/JoAnn’s can be used, but they will hurt your student’s hands eventually.
Covid Precautions: As I have a child who is small, I do ask that all those that come to visit wear a mask. I will be wearing one, as will my kids if they will be joining us.
Syllabus
*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
