Students taking this course should be familiar with the game of Minecraft and have a reading level of grade 3 or higher.
Introduction: Mon., 5:30-6:30, all ages
Dates: Jan 18 - March 14
Students taking this course should be at a beginning level with Minecraft. Students should be able to read on their own or have a parent sit with them to help with reading. This course is designed to teach hand/eye coordination, problem solving, and teamwork and may incorporate other subject matter along the way.
Intermediate: Mon., 6:45-7:45, 2nd grade +
Dates: Jan 18 - March 14
Students taking this course should be familiar with the game of Minecraft and have a reading level of grade 3 or higher.
This course is designed to teach hand/eye coordination, problem solving, and teamwork and may incorporate other subject matter along the way.
What is Minecraft? Minecraft is a game. Unlike most games, it does not have a story, a goal, or objectives. It cannot be finished, won, or completed. Children playing on a beach do not have assigned goals, they simply enjoy building castles and exploring for shells. This game works in much the same way. Minecraft is an environment in which players can explore and build.
What is MinecraftEDU? MinecraftEDU is version of Minecraft that has been modified for use in schools and libraries. In this course, participants will have the ability to use the open-ended setting of Minecraft to apply what they are learning by completing assigned projects. In addition, they will be learning soft skills including leadership and teamwork. Projects for this course will be targeted for reading and math levels between grades 3 and 7.
