Recording Studio

Class Description: Create your own professional-sounding studio recordings.

This is the class for musicians and vocal actors who'd like to
make their own recordings, as well as for aspiring audio engineers and producers with or without a performance background.

Over the course of 8 two-hour sessions, first-time students will
be introduced to the basic equipment & techniques involved in studio production, getting hands-on experience using microphones, mixers, multi-track recorders and effects processors.

Returning students who are
already familiar with the basics of sound recording will take their skills to the next level,

developing their personal style and technical expertise in the studio.

Completed projects can be self-published as a CD and will also be
uploaded to the class’s YouTube channel as a virtual recital for the world to enjoy.

Classes meet weekly at the instructor’s home studio outside of Eau Claire, starting in mid January. Class times will be arranged with the instructor following registration.
Syllabus

Electronic Music

Class description: During a series of 8 two-hour sessions, new students will be introduced to a variety of electronic instruments and technologies that have been steadily incorporated into a worldwide spectrum of musical genres including pop, hip-hop, rock, film music and even country, praise and classical during the last century.
Students will learn, through hands-on experience, the basics of synthesizers, drum machines, audio sampling, sequencing/automation and effects processing. A series of interesting, media-rich lectures and demonstrations, interspersed throughout studio sessions, will help them to recognize and appreciate the contributions of electronic performers and technologies to the world of music, from the theremin to auto-tune.

Returning students, already familiar with the above, will have extra time for experimentation, exposure to new techniques and are encouraged to focus on developing their personal production style and/or stage presence.

Classes meet weekly at the instructor’s home studio outside of Eau Claire. Class times will be arranged with the instructor following registration.

*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
