Project Based Learning Electives provided by the Berrien Springs Virtual Academy
En Plein Air Painting Spring 2018
Class led by Artist & Art Teacher Erika Noelle Bontrager Contact: carlsone10@icloud.com #269-985-8511 Location: 1150 S. Bainbridge Ctr Rd, Benton Harbor Class Date and Time: Wednesdays, 9-11 AM Classes begin January 24th - May 30th Ages: 6+ Additional registration at location is NOT required. Description: Have you ever wanted to create beautiful landscape and maritime paintings? This is your chance to learn how to paint outdoors (en plein air) and discover or develop your own talent in this genre. Class meetings will be held at the Artist's Residence where beautiful landscapes and subjects abound. For example, a wildlife sanctuary pond where migrating birds rest and nest, a restored 1881 barn, fields, forests, and gardens. We will be focusing on the changing colors & light of the seasons this Autumn. Art History slideshows are emailed prior to each class meeting to introduce concepts and encourage critical thinking about the process of painting. Exceptional paintings may be entered into local Art shows. Painting mediums such as acrylic, gouache, and watercolor will be explored according to students' readiness. This course can be tailored to students' interests (i.e.: focusing on portraiture, animals, etc.) |
*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
