Ages: 7-18
Equine Science and Horsemanship
Wednesdays, 1:30 until 3:00pm
Classes begin Sept. 9
Students will learn basic equine science and horsemanship. The topics include barn and horse safety, grooming, haltering and leading the horse, horse communication, parts of the horse, colors and markings, parts of tack and tack cleaning, riding disciplines, feed and water, and owning a horse. Students taking this class a second or more time will cover similar topics but more in depth. Also show grooming, blankets and boots, hoof care, additional pieces of tack and bit types, equine teeth, height and weight measuring, supplements, horse health.
Students need to wear clothing appropriate to the weather. Long pants and closed toed shoes are required. Classes will take place either inside, in the barn or indoor arena. The barn and arena are not heated.

***The partnership class does not cover horseback riding; however, students can choose to purchase a separate half hour ride for an extra fee of $15/ride paid directly to the instructor.

*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
