Location: Virtual
Grades 5th-12th
Additional registration at location is NOT required.
Tuesdays 11-12:30 PM - OR choose your own day/time for groups of 2 or more (email teacher)
January 26, February 2, 9, 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23, April 6, 13
Description: This course will cover basic italic calligraphy, gothic calligraphy, and touch on Copperplate style, as well as discuss and attempt to imitate the styles used to draft important American historical documents.
In addition, students will learn hand lettering as it’s own illustrative process. They will explore lettering as free gestural expression, made by hand using a variety of traditional media. Students gain appreciation for both calligraphy and hand lettering as art as well as begin to strengthen their own handwriting skills. Hand lettering is the synthesis of typography and illustration. Good Handwriting is not necessary for this class.
Syllabus
*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
