Our virtual class utilizes Google Meet, Google Classroom, and Padlet. All students need access to a Gmail email address to facilitate access to our online class platforms. The weekly two hour virtual class consists of an hour of “Demo” where we learn an essential art skill from one of the seven media centers available in the studio. Students will be supported in working on independent “Studio” work the second hour. Student ability to “behave like an artist” is supported and developed through presentation of art skill/techniques, the creative process, and a well-situated “virtual” art studio environment. Students will receive a box of art “media” and art “papers” to support their work in this virtual studio environment. Both group and individual instruction are available. Curriculum in our studio is both prescriptive and emergent and responsive to artists and their individual work. Art History and Culture is contextually referenced during our artmaking.
*Please note: it is important to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing your student's Community Resource classes. Most locations will allow a student to drop a class after one meeting, at no charge if it wasn't a good fit for the student, but not all. Some classes plan ahead based on the number that have signed up and have purchased materials, hired teachers, etc. and there might be a fee for class time or materials given to the student if the student drops after one or two meetings. The school cannot pay for classes that students do not complete, so choose wisely; if you do not take the class off of your student's schedule by the deadline, you may be asked to pay for the class time incurred prior to dropping the class.
