Berrien Academy of Music Spring 2017
Group Piano Instruction for Young Beginners
Instructor: Joanna Moody, Bachelor in Piano Performance
Located in downtown Berrien Springs
***Students must register with the instructor in addition to Partnership registration. Please contact the instructor as soon as possible to register your child for their specific class. Registration is open now and these classes do fill up, so if possible please call or email to secure your child’s place in the class.
Classes begin January 24th
This program is a wonderful alternative to traditional private piano lessons for beginners, introducing the keyboard and music in a fun and energetic way! Students learn to read music and play the piano in this comprehensive music course. Each 50-minute class is packed with a variety of learning activities that engage the students' attention. Ear training skills are developed through singing, solfege (Do, Re, Mi syllables), and by-ear keyboard playing. In addition to learning notes and chords, music theory is reinforced through arranging, improvising, transposing and composing. Students play ensembles with other class members at the keyboard and on rhythm instruments. The group atmosphere gives the students peer motivation to excel, and adds a social aspect to learning music that is absent from most private piano lessons. Students make progress quickly, and in a few semesters can successfully transition into private piano lessons or begin learning another instrument with a great musical background.
Parent and child attend class and learn together. Due to studio size, siblings not enrolled in the class may not attend. All students will need a piano or keyboard in their home for daily practicing. Piano books and other materials are provided.
Continuing piano classes:
***If your child has had 1-3 years of piano education, they may be a good fit for a continuing piano class. Please contact the instructor to schedule a consultation for class placement.
